Indonesian Surf Map

Indonesia has many remote and varied surf locations throughout the thousands of islands, dotted along much of the Southern coastlines of Sumatra, Java, Bali, and the island chain of Nusa Tenggara which catch the brunt of the Indian Ocean and Antarctic storm swells. Many in difficult to reach locations but worth the effort to get to. Getting to these locations can be an experience in itself. There is so much to explore and so many world-class waves to surf, it's difficult to know where to start.
The main surf season is between April and September when the biggest swells roll in. As always, wave size depends on tides and currents. Around Bali itself there are heaps of good breaks and while one spot may be working one day, somewhere else will be flat.In other areas, April to September is when you can pretty well expect a good wave, but in places like Lakey (Sumbawa) it is known to break later in the season than a lot of other breaks.
